The Leadership Center was founded in 2011 by Mr. Glen Evans, founder and executive director of Art For Humanity, a nonprofit organization based out of Washington D.C. Several years prior, Glen’s home had burnt to the ground, and the contractor he hired to rebuild had a team made primarily of Honduras. Throughout the process of constructing a new home, Glen got to know some of the builders, and learned it had been years since some of them had seen their families. As a minister at the time, Glen used his vacation time to fly to Honduras and take videos of these men around the country to show their families. It was during this initial trip that Glen decided to get involved in the fight against poverty in Honduras.
After initially focusing on business development and entrepreneurship, Glen decided to take on the launching of a new academic institution focused on ethical leadership development. While advertising for teaching positions, Glen came in contact with Joseph Rahm and Ira Lucia (co-founders of LMI). Both decided to move their families to Honduras in 2011 to serve with The Leadership Center, and both quickly moved into leadership positions at the school.
Throughout the next couple years, it became obvious that there needed to be another nonprofit organization that covered the administration and finances of The Leadership Center. Thus, Joseph and Ira founded Leadership Mission International in early 2013. Glen Evans remains actively involved in the operations of The Leadership Center, and was recently awarded the title of Founder Emeritus of The Leadership Center.
